ASIA IRCAD Taiwan,

the training centre for excellence in minimal access surgery

Drums and Chinese dragons welcomed the French delegation led by Professor Jacques Marescaux. The IRCAD (Institute for Research on Cancers of the Digestive Tract) in Strasbourg now has its clone in Taiwan: the ASIA IRCAD Taiwan, a centre of 7,300 square meters modelled on the Strasbourg centre, was opened with great flourish on 26th May 2008 in partnership with the Chang Bing Show Chwan Memorial Hospital, Lugang Town, Changhua County, Taiwan.

During this event, numerous officials took the opportunity to discover first-hand the full extent of the benefits brought about by this new technology. They were shown the new HD system for training in digestive and cancer surgery, the set-up of the international “IRCAD” network (Strasbourg, Taiwan, Buenos Aires and Dubai), and of course the new "intelligent OR1" operating room, the department of Virtual Reality dedicated to automatic 3D reconstructions of patient anatomy, and a tour of WeBSurg, the Internet’s very own university dedicated to laparoscopic surgery.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy

visited IRCAD on the 6th of September 2007

Four months after his election, French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited the IRCAD Institute (Research Institute against Digestive Cancer) on the 6th of September under the guidance of Professor Jacques Marescaux, President of the Institute. Theme of the visit: Research, Innovation, Robotics and New Surgical Technologies, Competitivity Pole. On this occasion, Nicolas Sarkozy also discovered the ASIA-IRCAD project, IRCAD's "twin" training and research center which will be inaugurated in May 2008 in Taiwan.
