It also has the objective of ensuring a perfect protection of the extraction site to avoid any contamination originating from either bacteria or tumoral cells. This video shows the specimen extraction after colonic resection using a double plastic wound protection. The plastic drape used in this video is the Vi-Drape manufactured by BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company, USA).

A plastic wound protector with a ring is used around a port situated suprapubically.

A plastic bag (i.e., an Endo-catch II) is introduced through this plastic drape. The specimen is pushed into the plastic bag, which is then closed, and retrieved through the plastic drape.

4. Specimen extraction 01'10''

The plastic bag is opened outside, and the intestinal portion is progressive pulled by either one of its extremities in order to decrease the volume of the specimen inside the plastic bag, which is extracted using traction through the plastic drape. This ensures a double protection and avoids any potential contamination by tumoral cells that may be trapped during manipulation inside the plastic bag.
