Double plastic wound protection for specimen extraction in colorectal surgery

The technique used for extraction of operative specimens is critical. It has the objective of avoiding too large incisions at the level of the abdominal wall since such an incision may induce incisional hernias. It also has the objective of ensuring a perfect protection of the extraction site to avoid any contamination originating from either bacteria or tumoral cells. This video shows the specimen extraction after colonic resection using a double plastic wound protection. The plastic drape used in this video is the Vi-Drape manufactured by BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company, USA).
